Large hand hammered sterling silver centerpiece bowl by Carl Poul Petersen. Petersen was a Danish silversmith who apprenticed under Georg Jensen. He married Jensen’s daughter and moved to Canada where he spent his life producing exceptional quality silver very much in keeping with his mentor. Most of Petersens silver is very reminiscent in design to Georg Jensen and this large center bowl is no exception. Hand-hammered throughout with leaf and grape clusters applied. Base is wonderfully designed and executed with four leaf securing points. Bowl measures 12″ in diameter, stands 5 1/4″ tall and weighs 39 troy ounces. Just the best one could hope for in Danish silver with its simple design crossing over from art nouveau to arts & crafts. Superb craftsmanship and in superb original condition. Difficult to find a nicer example of Petersen silver anywhere!
